Five Ways to Make a Memorable Night Out with TEDxCincinnati Main Stage Event and Memorial Hall
This year, for the first time ever, TEDxCincinnati 2017 is on a Saturday night. Plus, with early and late, pre-dinner or post-dinner options to see the same great show at historic Memorial Hall, it’s an great opportunity to create a truly memorable night out. Here are a few ideas:
Idea #1: Pack a picnic and have drinks on the deck at Washington Park.
The Deck at Washington Park spans 2,926 feet with comfy Adirondack chairs and a picnic-perfect lawn. “It’s a little insider’s secret,” said Emily Stowe, senior event marketing manager at3CDC. “You can bring in your own food, which makes an affordable night out. And there’s a full bar right on the deck with wine, coke products, and even local craft beers. It’s the best place to start a weekend.”
Tactical Tip: Purchase tickets for the late show TEDxCincinnati 2017 Main Stage Event at 8:30 p.m., and head to OTR early around 5:00 or so. Pack a picnic from home or order ahead at a local restaurant for pickup and find a space on the deck or lawn to dine alfresco. Then, at 7:00 p.m. stroll over to Memorial Hall to join the TEDxCincinnati networking cocktail hour.
Idea #2: Bar hop through history.
With TEDxCincinnati’s return to gorgeous Memorial Hall, it presents a unique opportunity to walk—or drink—your way through history and OTR’s restaurants.
Historic Memorial Hall recently underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation. In fact, in March, the City, 3CDC, and the OTR Foundation were honored in the US Capitol with an award for their work in OTR. Needless to say, historic buildings abound. So why not make a night of it?
After the show, bar hop through history starting at the Taft Ale House, a dramatic, three-level brewery in the old St. Paul’s German Evangelical Protestant Church. This storied building was refurbished in 2015 with help from a 3CDC stabilizing investment. For other ideas, Sundry and Vice offers an old-fashioned, apothecary feel. Then, visit the Eagle with its authentic vibe of reclaimed wood and fixtures borrowed from the old post office, which is now their dining room.
“OTR has something for everyone, whether you’re just looking for an entertaining night out or want to spend a whole day experiencing everything the historic neighborhood has to offer,” said Joe Rudemiller, senior communications manager at 3CDC. “Washington Park has free daily events from spring through fall, and the surrounding area is a bustling entertainment district filled with unique retail shops, restaurants and bars.”
Tactical Tip: Get the party started early with the TEDxCIncinnati 2017 early show at 5:00. Then make your way to your first stop. Some restaurants use the NoWait app to hold tables. With all the authentic renovations and OTR restaurants, Vine Street provides the perfect place to hit some taps while traveling through time.
Idea #3: Make it a City Flea and food truck afternoon.
The stars have aligned this year. The City Flea will be held in the afternoon of the TEDxCincinnati 2017 Main Stage Event. Since 2011, the City Flea has been a monthly, curated, urban flea market that offers dozens of local vendors and runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on June 17.
Tactical TIp: Purchase tickets for the 5:00 p.m. early show TEDxCincinnati Main Stage Event. Head out to Washington Park in the afternoon to browse the vendors and walk around OTR. City Flea ends as 4:00 p.m., so grab dinner before the food trucks close.
Idea #4: Take team building to a new level.
There’s nothing like a TEDxCincinnati event to get the creative juices flowing and empower people to think differently. Schedule TEDxCincinnati as a team-building event or simply grab a group of co-workers to meet up at the show. Plan to gather the team for dinner or drinks at OTR’s restaurants after the show to discuss what you heard. Some restaurants will take reservations for large groups. Or, even easier, grab beers for your team at the Washington Park concession stand across from Music Hall, and then find a space to chat in the park.
Tactical Tip: Try the early show and don’t forget to purchase tickets early.
Idea #5: Segway away the afternoon, and then glide to the show.
Make it a Cincinnati day. The Garage of OTR, located just two blocks away from Memorial Hall, offers Segway tours in the afternoons and evenings. Try combining a tour around town with a stimulating night out at TEDxCincinnati. American Legacy Tours on Vine Street also has a wealth of historic tours as another way to extend your day.
Tactical Tip: Just like the TEDxCincinnati Main Stage Events, these tours sell out fast. Purchase tickets for either the TEDxCincinnati early or late Main Stage events, and book your tour either before or after.
TEDxBundles 2 for $99.00* (*Limited Quantity) and General Admission Tickets – $75 per person. Seating is limited and often sells out. Early purchase is recommended.
